A metal mine lost its mid-level dewatering line for 18 hours during rainy season when corroded flange bolts sheared. The mine water was acidic (pH ≈ 4), and ordinary hot-dip galvanized bolts had corroded to the thread roots within two years. Mine safety codes require pumping redundancy — duty pumps must clear 24 h of normal inflow within 20 hours, with standby and maintenance pumps on top. Pumping capacity has redundancy built in; piping hardware usually doesn't. For acidic mine water (pH < 6), specify 316L or 2205 duplex for all wetted hardware regardless of connection type. Standard HDG fasteners are not acceptable.
