Family index of the threaded rod weight charts: for every size from M6 to M36 the table gives the coarse pitch, the pitch diameter d2 the weight model uses, the stress area and the weight in kg per metre of fully threaded rod in carbon steel at 7.85 g/cm³. Rod and double-end stud share one weight basis; each size opens its own page with the full length series.

Size Index (M6–M36)

Click a size for its own page (14 length steps from 100 to 3000 mm, thread parameters, material density factors). d = nominal thread diameter; d2 = pitch diameter used by the weight model (d − 0.6495P); As = stress area from ISO 898-1; the weight column is one metre of fully threaded rod in carbon steel.

Basis & Disclosed Assumptions

Where the numbers come from

  • A fully threaded rod is modelled as a cylinder of pitch diameter, not of nominal diameter: d2 = d − 0.6495P. At M12 with pitch 1.75 mm the model therefore uses d2 = 10.86 mm, multiplied by 7.85 g/cm³ for carbon steel, coating excluded.
  • That is why the values sit below the plain round-bar figure: one metre of M12 comes to 0.728 kg/m here, against 0.888 kg/m for a solid bar of nominal diameter 12 mm.
  • Rod and double-end stud share one weight basis, so an M12 rod and an M12 stud read the same kg per metre. The estimate tolerance used for this family is ±5%.

Scope & limits

  • The weight column is one metre of fully threaded rod. The per-size pages carry length steps from 100 to 3000 mm, and weight is linear in length: double the cut length, double the weight.
  • Cut ends and chamfers are not deducted and the end of a cut thread is not modelled. On a single piece the difference is negligible, and on a batch it stays well inside the estimate tolerance.
  • Thread process, tolerance class and coating are not modelled: cold-rolled and cut threads land on the same nominal geometry here, while an actual delivery varies by mill, class and coating.

Need a length outside the table, or a whole-batch total?

The weight calculator covers threaded rod and double-end stud: size, length and material in one pass, with unit weight, batch weight and pieces per tonne — on the same engine as this table.

FAQ

Is the weight based on the nominal diameter or on the thread's pitch diameter?

Pitch diameter. A fully threaded rod is modelled as a cylinder of d2 = d − 0.6495P; at M12 with pitch 1.75 mm that is d2 = 10.86 mm, which is why one metre comes to 0.728 kg/m here rather than the 0.888 kg/m a solid bar of nominal diameter would give.

Do threaded rod and double-end stud weigh the same?

Yes — the family gives them one weight basis, so M12 rod and M12 stud both read the same kg per metre. The stud's unthreaded middle section is not credited back: it sits at full diameter, so a stud with a long unthreaded run weighs a little more than the table value. The per-size pages use the same basis, so figures stay comparable across the family.
