Material Density Conversion
Values above are carbon steel (7.85 g/cm³); for other materials multiply by the density factor.
| Material | Density (g/cm³) | Factor |
|---|---|---|
| Carbon / Alloy Steel | 7.85 | ×1.000 |
| Stainless 304 | 7.93 | ×1.010 |
| Stainless 316 | 7.98 | ×1.017 |
| Brass | 8.5 | ×1.083 |
Basis of Calculation & Disclosed Assumptions
Calculation basis
- All values are computed as annular geometric volume × density (carbon steel 7.85 g/cm³, base metal, coating excluded) — identical formula and parameters as the online weight calculator and the catalog SKUs.
- Flat washers use π/4·(D²−d1²)·t with the bore at the DIN 125 A standard hole diameter d1 (e.g. M6→6.4 mm, M12→13 mm — slightly larger than the nominal diameter, so no separate ID column is shown), closing within ±0.3% of published DIN 125 per-1,000-pcs weights across all sizes.
- Spring lock washers use π/4·(D²−d²)·t (bore at the nominal diameter d) with an additional ×0.83 effective-section allowance for the split gap and section chamfers, regressed on published DIN 127 per-1,000-pcs weights.
- Flat washer dimensions follow ISO 7089 / GB/T 97.1 (equivalent adoption); spring lock washers use the library modelled DIN 127 series dimensions.
Scope & limits
- Theoretical geometric estimates for quotation, freight and packing budgets; use measured values for trade settlement.
- Actual piece weight varies with chamfer, split-ring geometry and coating (hot-dip galvanizing ≈ +4.5%).
- Theoretical estimate tolerance ±5%.

FAQ
What is the difference between a spring washer and a flat washer?
Both are washers but serve different purposes: a spring washer (lock washer) resists loosening through its split-ring spring force, while a flat washer spreads bearing pressure and protects the mating surface. They are often paired — flat washer under a spring washer; the chart above lists both weights for each size side by side.
What washers pair with an M12 bolt?
A matching M12 flat washer (ISO 7089 / GB/T 97.1) plus a spring lock washer (GB/T 93) for anti-loosening; for the mating hex nut (ISO 4032 / GB/T 6170) see our hex nut weight chart for the same size.
